I’ve been going through my old poems lately, so now my brain is thinking in poetry!! It probably helps that I’ve been sitting by the water and watching the ducks and cormorants and the many monarch butterflies stopping in on their way to Mexico. Funny because last night we celebrated the birthday of a friend who is also about to embark on a long stay in Mexico. Gosia also did the same; she loved her place in Mexico with hammocks inside the house and the beach close by.

Here’s a little poem that just spilled out… or should I say spooled. Hope you like it!

Loose threads
hang, in uneven lengths.
One I haven’t seen in awhile
Does she still think of me?
One is frayed… I might have to discard it
How did it get to this?
Another one is pink and tangled in knots
It must have a lot going on.
Maybe if I cut one, make it as short as can be
I won’t wonder as much.
Maybe if I thread one through a needle
I can put it to good use.
Maybe if I put them all away
And shut the drawer
It won’t hurt as much.
The spool of white thread in the corner
gets ready to unwind,
Eager to make its way
to that one little hole in my dress
that can be still be mended.
