What beautiful weather for Halloween! I just went to cafe in my neighbourhood and had my coffee outside, with the sun warming my face and glints of orange to be found everywhere… in a woman’s sweater, the leaves of the maple tree, and the big garish pumpkin designed to scare. I think I’ll go with my Velma outfit tonight, which involves just wearing my orange dresses and my glasses. I accidentally discovered this outfit one year when I was too lazy to get an outfit, and someone said to me, Oh you’re Velma from Scooby Doo? Yes, yes I am. Easiest outfit ever. I have the dress, glasses, and bangs to match. I could also wear my cowgirl outfit, and make use of the expensive cowboy boots that I bought for Calgary Stampede one year. But that would require a trip to the locker.
I came across this poem that I wrote for Halloween a few years ago. Can’t believe that the same demon is still lurking on the world stage! Not a trick or a treat, but more a travesty.
While on the patio, I put my sunglasses on so that I wouldn’t accidentally make eye contact with a barista from the cafe next door. It’s a loyalty thing. I would have to explain why I was at the Italian place and not the Persian place. I had an excuse ready, “I’m meeting a friend… she must be running late” (as I guiltily scarf down my warm mushroom toast). Luckily the crisis was averted and no such excuse was needed. I read my book for a bit, and then listened in on the conversation next to me. Friends chatting about an upcoming trip to Greece. “We have two people on the trip that are rawdogging the flight. No Nexus, no lounge.” Hahaha, welcome to my life! Also I’m glad that my word editor does not recognize the word “rawdogging” – I’m sure it will in 2 years when Gen Zs (or AI bots) take over the world.
My show is on Thursday!! I can’t wait! We have a great lineup, some musical interludes, and most importantly – samosas. My set is coming together – mostly “new material”. A little scary because part of me wants to share the old stuff because some of the people in the crowd haven’t heard it. But I’m excited to share the new stuff too. And I have a killer line that will be payback for someone who won’t see it coming.
Also I’ll be one of the featured comedians for a Diwali event coming up!! I just love this poster. :-)

I’ve been reading Ali Hassan’s book Is there Bacon in Heaven? So funny how we always want what we can’t have (or find ways to have it). I think comedians and breaking traditions go hand in hand. :-)
Have a wonderful weekend! May the falling leaves grace your path.
